Restart Plan Modification/Change for 4th Grading Period
Dear Fairport Families,
The Fairport Harbor Restart Committee reconvened on March 25, 2021, to evaluate our education plan and make modifications allowed because of the newly released guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Lake County Health Department regarding social distancing. Thank you to all who contributed and provided input during the planning process.
All In-Person learners will follow a five (5) days a week schedule, starting Tuesday, April 6, 2021. Students who wish to remain on remote instruction may still do so. Office hours will still be maintained for remote learners.
This change should remain in effect for the remainder of the 20-21 school year. The arrival and dismissal times will remain the same as they are now: McKinley 8:55 a.m. to 1:40 p.m., Harding 9:00 a.m. to 2:12 p.m.
As we increase our in-person learning, it is essential not to let your guard down. The District will continue to follow all health and safety protocols that we implemented back in September.
Those health and safety protocols include, but are not limited, to:
- The requirement of face masks for all staff and students in grades K-12
- Desk shields for all students to place on top of their desk
- Hand sanitizer located throughout all school buildings and classrooms
- Physical distancing 3 feet is acceptable in the classroom, revised March 19, 2021
- Physical distancing 6 feet is acceptable during lunchtimes and common spaces
- No sharing of supplies or materials
- No large group gatherings or assembly of students
- Limited classroom transitions
- No classroom visitors
Grades K-9 In-person students will attend five days a week.
March 26, 2021 - Last day of the quarter
March 29 - April 5, 2021 - Spring Break School is closed
April 6, 2021 - School resumes from spring break
April 12, 2021 - Full day return for Grades 10th, 11th, and 12th
April 12, 2021 - Remote Learners who are transitioning to In-Person Instruction
May 28, 2021 - Last Day of School
Grades 10th, 11th, and 12th
Students will have the option of staying virtual or returning to school for an in-person educational environment.
The families that opted “in” on the return to school survey for the fourth quarter will come to the building for a full day of in-person instruction/guided study hall when school is in session.
These students will be located in the Design Lab. There will be teachers in attendance at all times during the day for student support. A “grab and go” lunch and breakfast will be offered. This schedule will be in effect the week of April 12, 2021.
Remote Learning Option
We will continue to offer the Remote Learning option through the 2020-2021 school year. Students choosing In-person learning will follow a five days a week schedule.
Any Remote Student who is currently enrolled and would like to transition to in-person instruction will be receiving a survey to change their education choice. The administration will review the survey results and make requested schedule changes. We anticipate the scheduled start date to be the week of April 12, 2021.
Students enrolled in Breakwater Academy will not have the option to transition to In-Person Learning due to the virtual learning academy courses being a semester-long for grade completion/transcription.
Bring your Water Bottle - Students must bring a water bottle to school daily, temperatures are rising, and we have removed water fountains and replaced them with state-of-the-art water bottle refill stations due to COVID.
Chromebooks- Your student’s device must be charged nightly. Classrooms do not have space or outlets to allow for daily charging of the Chromebooks. The start of the 4th quarter includes the state-mandated testing window. Your student’s Chromebook must come to school daily fully charged.
All students, whether remote or in-person, at all buildings will have breakfast and lunch provided to them at no cost through the end of the 2020-21 school year.
The Free Meal program will continue district-wide.
The Free Meal pick-up program will continue district-wide during the school year for our remote learners. Listed below are the dates and times for the upcoming weeks.
The weekly meal order form is located on our website or by clicking this LINK. You may complete a meal reservation form each week from Tuesday to Sunday until 3:00 p.m. The curbside pick-up is in front of the Fairport Library at the designated times listed below.

Please complete a meal reservation form from Tuesday afternoon to Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Pick up the following Tuesday between 12:30 to 1:30 on Vine Street in front of the library. Stay in your vehicle, and a lunch staff member will bring out meals to you directly.

Teacher Office Hours will continue; teacher/s will host the office hours in person or by zoom. Reach out to your teacher/s via email to request an appointment.
Athletics - All extracurricular activities, games, interscholastic scrimmages will be permitted on a day-to-day basis during this time. They are working closely with the coaches and the Activities Director to monitor and follow all health guidance protocols to prevent COVID-19. If a student is exposed in the classroom to a confirmed coronavirus case, that no longer means skipping school extracurriculars. Under a revised Ohio order, the students can continue attending extracurriculars if no symptoms develop. That includes spring sports. If a student is exposed outside of the classroom, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention quarantine guidelines apply. As high school athletic associations continue to monitor the status of COVID-19 and take necessary actions, we will update you with the latest information that is made available. Please consult with your coach if you have any questions.
Attendance -If your child is absent, please call the school attendance line, McKinley 440-354-4982, Harding 440-354-5400 ext 1397, before 9:00 a.m. If we do not hear from you regarding your child's absence, we will contact you at home or work.
Grades K-5th - Daily Check-in - Teachers will be taking attendance for those students who are virtual or during learning days. Students or parents will no longer be required to log into Infinite Campus daily to check-in for attendance for the second semester. Students will be marked absent if they are not present during a live lesson in a remote learning environment. However, if the assigned work is completed by the end of the school week, Monday through Sunday, the absence will be adjusted as the student is present. If the assignment is turned in after the school week, the assignment will be credited for a grade, but the absence will remain.
Grades 6th-9th - You must attend your virtual class to receive attendance credit for the day. This is a change from the first semester. Live lesson attendance will influence athletic eligibility for that day.
Grades 10th, 11th, and 12th - Daily Check-in, Students or parents will be required to log into Infinite Campus daily to check-in for attendance, and the details can be found by clicking here.
Auburn Transportation - Painesville City Schools will continue to transport Fairport Students to Auburn Career Center at the same time scheduled as long as Auburn remains in session for in-person learning. At this time, Auburn has in-person learning taking place.
One thing that will not change is that COVID is still here. We have negotiated this pandemic together and worked through many obstacles. The 2020/21 school year is focusing on adaptability, agility, and flexibility. The District will continue to be guided by public health expertise, community dialogue, and collaboration with teachers. As the pandemic continues to evolve or as new guidance becomes available, FHEVS will adjust its plan to ensure that a safe learning and working environment is provided for students, teachers, and staff. We know that this is a challenging time for all, and we are grateful for everyone’s patience and understanding as we continue to navigate this unprecedented health crisis.
