Dear Fairport Harbor Parents and Guardians, 

The Fairport Harbor Schools recognizes how incredibly difficult the current situation is for our families. Our teachers have been working diligently to assign meaningful instructional content for students to complete away from school. Teachers are making remote learning opportunities available and can track progress as well as provide feedback that will permit students to advance to the next grade level as long as they engage with their teachers and the provided content. 

To involve all of our students, we need to know how we can better assist our families. Please notify your building administrator for McKinley, dfischer@fhevs.org, or Harding krumbarger@fhevs.org, if your child tells you they are unable to access the online learning opportunities. Our teachers and technology department will work with you to make sure your child has the access they need. Many companies are now providing free internet. Please let us know if you do not have the technology for your child to utilize. 

Regardless of the duration of this closure, our education community is determined to do everything in our power to help every student move on to the next grade in the fall and make sure every senior graduate on time! The Fairport School District expects that ALL students will continue their education online. To promote students to the next grade level, students must complete their assigned work, and we will support you through this. Beginning March 30th, the district will be closely monitoring student contributions to their online learning. Please note that the district will observe Spring Break the week of March 22 through March 28, with classes resuming on March 30, 2020.

Spectrum COVID-19 Internet Offer for Students

How does Lifeline work?

If you qualify, you choose a participating provider in your area and sign up. You’ll have to provide proof of eligibility and renew your Lifeline subscription every year. You can also have only one Lifeline benefit per household, so you have to choose between a phone or internet subsidy.

Several ISPs participate in Lifeline benefits programs. You can find all your options using the Lifeline provider database. But here are a few examples of companies that participate:

Free internet for students from Altice

Altice internet providers Suddenlink and Optimum are offering 60 days of free internet service for households with K–12 or college students. Internet speeds are up to 30 Mbps if you do not already have access to a home internet plan. To sign up, call 1-866-200-9522 if you live in an area with Optimum internet service, or call 1-888-633-0030 if you live in an area with Suddenlink internet service.

Update: In response to COVID-19 developments, some internet providers are offering free services to low-income families and households with students. We’ll keep you updated with the latest here to help you stay connected.

Free Comcast Xfinity internet

Comcast Xfinity is currently offering its Internet Essentials program free for two months to new customers. The internet provider is also automatically increasing speeds for all Internet Essentials customers.

Comcast Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots are also open and free to use by anyone.
