According to a news release, Fields of Excellence “honors outstanding athletic fields and the hard working field crews who diligently maintain them.”

College, universities, high schools and parks and recreation departments submit pictures of the fields, along with letters of recommendation and application forms describing their field maintenance program.

From those this year, 91 winners were selected by Pioneer Athletics.

Greig Field was one of 13 winners in Ohio, along with Convoy Crestview, Elida, Fort Loramie, Galion, Berlin Hiland, Lexington, Lorain, West Lafayette Ridgewood, Spencerville and Elmore Woodmore at the high school level and Xavier University.

Fairport will get a certificate of recognition and banner for the award.
