Thank you to The civic club for sponsoring a coloring contest for our McKinley students. The Civic Club provided coloring sheets to all of the McKinley Students.
Each student had the opportunity to color their picture and turn it into their classroom teacher. They included their name, teacher's name and Grade level on the back of the sheet. A vote was held and there was one winner per grade level K-5. The winners each received an Easter basket full of goodies. The civic club was also kind enough to be supplying one candy bar per child (including preschool).
Thank you to the Civic Club for sponsoring this fun event and to all of the students who submitted their coloring pages!
Thank you FHS Graduate Brian Schiffbauer for coming back to Fairpirt today to talk with our student-athletes about the college recruitment experience! Knowledge is power! If you want to take your game to the next level, you need knowledgeable people around you to help you. Good job to those student-athletes who attended today and if you missed the presentation due to classes, etc, please get in touch with Fairport's Head Football Coach Cameron Ruff to get a copy of the zoom link!
Also, please join me in giving a HUGE thank you to Laura Brown Schiffbauer - our Fairport Harbor Athletic Booster Treasurer! Laura has served the Fairport Harbor Athletic Boosters as treasurer for the past 20 years! Even after her own two children finished high school, she was committed to the athletic programs at the school so she stayed involved. Laura has been an incredible volunteer and we are so thankful for her. She handles all the finances, including invoices, payments, tax documents, filings, etc. She is the heart ❤️ of the Fairport Athletic Boosters and has gone above and beyond to support coaches and student-athletes in a ton of behind the scenes work. Thank you Laura for being a volunteer - you are appreciated by all of us! #20yearsandcounting #skipperpride

Fairport Boys Basketball Season ended tonight with a 74-60 loss to Independence in the OHSAA Div 4 Sectional Final - the Skippers finished with a record of 16-8, which is more wins than the last 3 yrs combined. What a ride it’s been! Thank you SENIORS. You were a fun group to watch. You played hard and showed leadership. To the underclassmen: some of you have one year left, some have more - you've got the off season to improve. Get better. Work harder than the person next to you. Push yourselves! You owe it to yourself to be the best version of you that you can be. Go Skippers - get to work! ⚓🏀

Power of the Pen is statewide program “devoted to excellence in creative writing at the middle school level.” Power of the Pen was first established in 2016 as a club at Fairport Harding Junior High and High School. We have expanded our middle school program to include high school writers for the past three years.
This 2020-2021 school year is our fifth season. Although many extracurriculars have changed this year due to the pandemic, the Club has moved ahead with virtual tournaments and virtual practice when we can’t be in person. We have six middle school competitors: Arielle, Lauren, Lily, Hannah, Charlie B., and Aleera. Returning at the high school level are Andrea, Charlie H., and Adara T.
This season is an especially meaningful one for Adara, who has now participated with the Club for four years, the longest competition career of any writer we have had.
We are pleased to announce the results of our first middle school Power of the Pen District Tournament on January 9, 2021. For the first time in our history, the full seventh grade team has qualified for regionals and will move forward to the Hudson Regional Tournament in March.
A huge congratulations to Lauren McKinney and Arielle Willis! In addition, Lauren placed 14th in the tournament overall, and Arielle achieved the highest tournament rank that anyone in our Club has ever received--4th place!
Our 8th grade team also did well, and had the highest collective team placement we have ever had, placing 4th out of 16 teams. Congratulations, Lily, Hannah, Charlie, and Aleera! It was a highly competitive 8th grade tournament, however, and our writers just missed regional qualifications. We are immensely proud of you, and are looking forward to continuing practice sessions and fielding a strong high school team next year!
Speaking of high school, we want to wish our high school team the best of luck as they enter their first Just Write tournament of the season on February 13th. Go Skippers.
Kara McFadden has set another new school record. She has the most three pointers in a single season. The previous record was set by Shannon Harless in 2012-2013 @ 54. Right after thry stopped the game to give her a poster, she hit two more three's. At Half time, she had 57 3's on the year. By the end of the game, she was at 59.The Previous Career Record for girls basketball was 78 3-pointers, previously held by Michelle Hogya. Kara passed this record several games ago - so she is the CAREER and SEASON record holder for Fairport Girls Basketball. Kara is a star on the court and in the classroom and we truly cannot wait to see what her future holds.
We congratulate our Auburn students on their induction to the Technical National Honor Society.

McKinley would like to extend a big thank you to Bob and Amy Rogish of Rogish Farm in Chesterland. Not only did they allow for a virtual visit to their location, they also donated a Christmas tree for one lucky student. Our "field trip" was led by Tom and Macey Rowan. They guided our students and staff on a walking trip around the farm, explaining the process of growing different varieties of pine trees, pointing out signs of animals and answering the curious questions of our McKinley thinkers. If students were unable to attend the live session, a recording will soon be posted by their teachers. Happy Holidays!
Click here to watch the virtual field trip to a tree farm 12/18/20 with McKinley Elementary.
Click to watch a zoom recording of the McKinley Elementary Virtual Christmas Caroling Event. Thank you to music teacher, Mrs. Danielle Jones for coordinating this fun event for the students and staff.
Polar Express day is a long tradition in our kindergarten classrooms. Today we hosted our first ever virtual Polar Express day! Students all received a golden ticket in their email and were able to find a cozy spot with their stuffed animals, PJ's, hot chocolate and a snack to view the enchanting movie.
