  • Economic Forum Breakfast 9/21/21

    Economic Forum Breakfast 9/21/21

Thank you to the Lake County Development Council for inviting and providing a select group of students from local schools in Lake County an opportunity to attend the annual Economic Forum Breakfast on Tuesday, September 21st 2021 - 7:30am, at LaMalfa in Mentor. This event was at no cost to the school or students.

Dr. Ted C. Jones, Chief Economist - Senior Vice President, Stewart Title Guaranty Company, who annually joins us from Texas, was back in-person at LaMalfa. He shared a lot of great information about the economy. He reviewed many challenges and updates from the previous challenging and ever-changing year.

Dr. Gretchen Skok Disanto, a Lakeland Professor of Business Management and Entrepreneurship Center Director at Lakeland Community College and business advisor for the Ohio Small Business Development Center at Lakeland, was the opening speaker who spoke on the Role of Quality of Life Initiatives in Lake County’s Economic Development. Access to recreational areas was one of the areas covered and she shared plans about a two mile trail being built in Lake County to connect Fairport Harbor and Painesville Township.

Students in attendance enjoyed both presentations and learned a lot about the local, state, national and world economy.

  • Susan Tenon is going global! 8/10/21

Susan Tenon is going global! 8/10/21

Harding High School English teacher, Susan Tenon, was selected to participate in the NEA Foundation's Global Learning Fellowship, a year-long professional learning experience focused on educating and empowering students for global citizenship. As one of 42 fellows, she is representing the state of Ohio and will enhance her knowledge and skills to integrate global competency into her daily classroom instruction, advocate for global competency at Harding and the FHEVS district, and help students thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

The fellows immerse themselves in online coursework, webinars, reading and reflection as well as a two-day professional development workshop this fall and a nine-day international field study to South Africa next summer.

In South Africa, they will investigate the historical and cultural context of the country and learn about its education system through meetings with policymakers, business and nonprofit leaders as well as visits to schools to meet teachers, students and administrators.

The fellows will conclude their fellowship with a project that enables their learning to be shared more broadly with educators beyond the program.

**This program is done at no cost to Fairport Harbor Schools**
