6/16/26 Community Letter from the Board of Education

 

Dear Fairport Harbor Families and Community,

One of the greatest strengths of our district is the talented people who serve our students every day. We are proud to recognize the leaders who will be taking on new roles to help us continue moving forward together by building on the many successes of our schools and creating a culture of educational excellence and opportunities for every student.

We are excited to share several leadership updates for the upcoming 2026–2027 school year that combines or re-assigns responsibilities to more efficiently administer services.

As you are likely aware, our current superintendent, Mr. Bill Billington, tendered his resignation as superintendent of the Fairport Harbor School District effective July 31, 2026.  After a lengthy search by the District Board, Dr. Karl Schneider was approved as Superintendent for the 2026-2027 school year.  He will begin transitioning into the role this summer.

Mrs. Heidi Elmore will transition from her role as K–5 Principal to become our Director of Pupil Services. In this position, she will oversee several areas of responsibility that were previously contracted through the Education Service Center of the Western Reserve. By bringing these services back into the district, we will improve coordination and consistency for students and families while also creating meaningful cost savings that can be reinvested into our schools.

Dr. Steve Norris will move from his current role as 6–12 Principal into a unified K–12 Principal position. This exciting change creates a seamless leadership structure across our entire school community, supporting greater continuity for students and families from kindergarten through graduation.

To further strengthen this model, the district is creating an Assistant Principal/Athletic Director position. This addition maintains the same number of administrators both districtwide and within the building while ensuring that leadership support remains aligned with the needs of our students, staff, and extracurricular programs.

We are currently in the process of selecting the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director and anticipate presenting a recommendation to the Board of Education at its June 23 meeting. These changes reflect our ongoing commitment to providing outstanding support for students, strengthening services for families, and ensuring that district resources are used as effectively as possible.

Additionally, these changes represent more than a restructuring—they are an investment in the future of Fairport Harbor Schools. By leveraging the talents of our leadership team, enhancing student services, and operating more efficiently, we are positioning our district for continued success while remaining focused on what matters most: our students.

We are grateful for the continued support, trust, and partnership of our families and community. Together, we have much to celebrate, and we look forward to the opportunities ahead.
