Dear Fairport Harding High School Family,
Cardina Field has been the home of the Skipper Softball team since it was built in 1984 and dedicated in April of 1985. Fond memories are held by former players and alumni, countless coaches, parents, and endless volunteers who helped keep the field looking great and operational. Unfortunately, the field that was lovingly dedicated to Jim Cardina, Fairport’s beloved softball coach, has fallen into disrepair.
We are asking for our alumni, friends and community to come together to honor Coach Cardina and set the foundation for years of future memories for our student-athletes. It takes a village and Fairport IS that village. In order to restore the field, clean dirt will be needed to level the infield. Also, two new dugouts, a press box, a storage shed and a concession stand need to be built and the scoreboard needs repair.
The Fairport Softball team is growing by leaps and bounds. In 2019, a middle school softball team was added with 12 student-athletes in grades 7-8 and 12 student-athletes played on the high school team in grades 9-12. This past spring, we were looking forward to another year of growth but COVID-19 shut down the season.
Please join us in supporting this project and help us restore Cardina Field so all the wonderful student-athletes of the Fairport Softball program can make new memories here. Fairport Harbor community pitching in to help revitalize Cardina Field (News-Herald).
Sandra Knight wants the Fairport Harding High School softball team to resume the tradition of playing home games in its hometown.
To make sure that happens, Knight has spearheaded a campaign that is raising money and enlisting the help of volunteers to revitalize Cardina Field in Fairport Harbor Village.
“Our goal is to be on this field by spring of 2021,” said Knight, who serves as athletic director for Fairport Harbor Schools.
