  • In 2015 the Fairport Harbor Exempted Village School District was recognized as the fastest improving school district in the state of Ohio. Driven by daily teacher collaboration and the motivation of Early College acceleration for its students, that had been established in 2010; the district made a courageous but somewhat surprising decision. Rather than chasing state report card results, the stakeholders chose to pursue loftier goals. The district opted to work toward the more meaningful goals of graduating every student with an associates degree or a skill certificate.

This vision of true college and career readiness seemed impossible in 2010, but changes in legislature, technology, and teacher development have made the dream attainable and every student in the class of 2020 is now on the cusp of reaching one or both of those important milestones.

The broad array of educational initiatives involved in supporting such an ambitious undertaking have at times appeared to be random and disconnected. With the help of EdLeader 21, the district is now engaging its stakeholders in the process of developing a document called the Profile of a Graduate. This document will help align the district initiatives into one streamlined and coherent plan that will improve understanding and place every student on a path to a bright future.
